Hunter settles in
While we're not a dog kennel, many of our clients have asked if we would take in their pets whenever they had to leave town.
We've generally agreed to do this, provided that we had the room...we almost never take more than one or two, and only then if we know their background and temperament.
So far the result has proven extremely positive. We've had the fun of getting to know and love a wide assortment of pets and their owners have enjoyed the peace of mind that comes with knowing that their loved ones are being well taken cared of.
Our boarding service has become extremely popular, and since we only take a limited number of pets, we strongly encourage our clients to reserve as far ahead of time as possible.
If you think it might be traumatic for your pet to stay at a strange place while you're away, you might want to consider a trial overnight a week or two before your departure. Not only will this show us how well your pet will adopt to the new surroundings, but when you finally leave and drop him off he'll be entering familiar territory.
We don't have a big house, but it's neat and only a block from the beach where we take our furry guests on daily walks. We also have a securely fenced backyard where they can run in. (Note: We don't allow them to stay outside unless we're also at home.)
Pets and Separation Anxiety
When your pet comes to stay with us he becomes one of the family. We don't use cages unless you bring one and it's something your pet prefers. Your pet will enjoy the run of the house, just as our two pets do. If he's used to sleeping on the bed with you at home then it's more than likely he'll be sleeping on the bed here as well.
Many owners worry about their pets experiencing separation anxiety, but frankly, we've never seen it. When the door closes and the owner has left, our furry guest invariably starts exploring. Within minutes he's in a new and exciting world and (you'll hate to hear this) his owner is becoming a distant memory.
(Sometimes it's actually embarrasing when the owner returns and the pet doesn't want to leave. Or when he's straining at the leash when his owner brings him over for another visit.)
To make your pet's stay a little more comfortable we ask you to bring along some of his favorite toys. Also bring his bed if he has one. Perhaps some of his favorite treats, and a supply of his regular food and dishes.
And for the safety of our pets and others we request that you bring your pet's vaccination records and that they be up to date.
For your separation anxiety we provide regular email updates and photos to let you know how your pet is doing in your absence.
