Too Busy to Exercise Your Dog?
We'll Walk Your Pooch When You Can't.
You've had a hard day at the office and you're looking forward to kicking your shoes off, putting your feet up and just relaxing. On top of that, there's a cold wind blowing and it's starting to rain. The last thing you want to do when you get home is to put on your slickers and take the dog out for his daily walk. But there he is, greeting you at the front door, wagging his tail in excited expectation...how can you say no?
Wouldn't it be great to come home at the end of the day to be greeted by a pet who's relaxed and calmly happy to see you instead of one who's frantic for attention and activity?
Cadboro Bay Dog Walking & Pet Sitting Service provides pet sitting, dog walking and house sitting services to clients in Greater Victoria and surrounding areas. Our professional Pet Sitters will visit your pet at home while you travel or for daily dog walks and, as part of our service, and included in our fee, we will ensure your home's security.
Our service includes:
FAQS
1. Do you only service the Cadboro Bay area?
No, we have clients all over the greater Victoria area, including Oak Bay, West Victoria, Esquimalt, Colwood, and Saanich.
2. Can dogs stay with you?
Yes...but only on a very limited basis. We normally only take in one dog at a time...sometimes two if they're small and get along. The reason for this is that we give all of our furry guests lots of love and attention and they become part of the family, often sleeping on the floor beside our bed or even on the bed. We've never seen any signs of separation anxiety from our house guests and they're always happy to return.
3. What type of animals do you care for?
Most of the requests we get are by dog and cat owners, but we also take care of birds, and reptiles.
4. Do you do pack walks?
No, we limit the number of dogs we walk to four. Many times your dog is walked with just one or two other dogs. If your dog is anti-social and can only be walked privately, we can generally accommodate this for a small extra fee.
5. How do you determine if a dog is suitable for group outings?
Most people have a fair idea of how well socialized their dog is, however it is important to get an objective assessment. During our initial visit, we will ask a lot of questions about your dog's behavior and history.
We are looking for behaviors that will tell us how able and willing your dog is to learn and adjust to new situations. No dog is perfect; and most dogs will benefit immensely from our socializing and outings.
6. What are the pick up and return arrangements?
Pick ups and returns are done depending on the schedule that we have agreed to in our initial visit. Because we are fully bonded and insured, we are able to pick up and return each dog whether or not the owner is home. At the end of each outing, your dog is returned home safe and sound and clean. Each dog is left secure and with adequate water supply and food as per your instructions. When possible, periodic e-mails with photo attachments are sent.
7. What emergency plans do you have in place?
In the event of an emergency, we will contact you right away. If the dog needs to be taken to the vet, we will transport the animal to the closest veterinarian office that you are affiliated with.
Each dog's information record is included on the outing and contains the owner's phone numbers, the veterinarian of record and the dog's medical history. We also keep prepared consent forms and a current list of available veterinarian offices and clinics in our service area.
8. What do you do in bad weather?
While we don't get really cold weather in Victoria and seldom see snow, it has been known to rain occasionally. Your dog will be walked rain or shine. On really wet days we will try to keep them as clean as possible so please keep a towel handy so we can dry him off if necessary. Also, you have the option of having your dog kept on-leash on those days.
9. Is there a minimum number of outings we need to enroll our dog in?
No, but we recommend participation at least once a week. This does not need to be the same day or the same time, however, the more consistent the schedule is, the better it is for the dog. This promotes familiarity and stability in the dog groups. Ideally, a dog that participates once per week should also be enjoying several extended walks each week with it's owner. Daily adventure outings for a dog are great when combined with fun week-end activities with the dog's owner.
10. Will I have the same person each time?
All of our walking is done by us...we don't use employees. Bob generally takes the larger dogs and Julie takes the smaller ones, so almost all of the time it will be the same person walking your dog. On rare occasions one of us might walk the other's dogs.
11. Do you charge more for holidays?
We charge 50% more than our regular rate for walking dogs on the following holidays: New Years Day, Easter Sunday, Canada Day, Labour Day, and Christmas Day. We don't charge extra for pet sitting, house sitting, or pet boarding on these holidays.
12. Can I contact some of your former clients to get a glimpse what its like working with your company?
Absolutely. We would be very happy to provide you with a list of clients who would be willing to speak to you about their experience.

This provides you with an opportunity to get to know us and we will get acquainted with your pets, their routines, and any specific assignments required while you are away from your home and pets. "Bob and Julie Butler have taken great care of our boy Browser giving him
lots of love and attention and allowing us to feel safe and secure knowing
our dog was being treated like a member of their family with great care in a
safe environment. Thanks." ...Debbie Noble/Cadboro Bay
"My dog Goliath takes watching the house serious, but doesn't like being alone at home all day while "mom" is busy at work. Bob and Julie have brightened his day - he now eagerly awaits his noon-hour walk. Because of their wonderful and caring service, I now have one less thing to worry about. Bob and Julie are Goliath's new best friends!" ...Sabine Schuerholz-Lehr
"Thank you so much for taking such good care of Bella. When we arrived home she was happy to see us. But she was very relaxed and at ease. Thanks! It all worked out perfectly! Bella is excited to see you again soon! Cheers." ...Christine McAuley & Bella.
"Bob and Julie:
From the moment you came to our home for our initial assessment, we knew that you were just the people to help us out with our little Zoe. Luckily, Zoe seemed to agree - and what a difference you've made to all of our lives! We now come home from work to a relaxed, happy, well-exercised pup. Zoe truly looks forward to and loves her "Bob Days", as do the rest of us.
We couldn't have gotten through Zoe's puppyhood without you helping us out. It's a wonderful feeling to know that she is being so well looked-after. You've both been so professional and flexible with your service, and it is is obvious that you really care for your four-legged clients. Our whole family looks forward to many more years of having you in our lives."
- Karla
"P.S. We know Zoe loves you because every time she hears a car pull up outside, she looks out the window eagerly to see if Bob is coming to take her out for a walk!"
"Hi, Julie
Wow! What a difference your daily walks have made with our Chloe. She's so much more contented now when I get home from work and what a relief not to have to take her out for an hour when all I want to do is kick back and put my feet up.
By the way, we were a bit nervous about trusting our pet to a stranger...you never know what you're going to get. Upon meeting you, however, we were both pleasantly reassured by your responsible and professional approach. It was also very obvious that both of you love dogs and that they love you in return. Thank you very much from both of us and also from Chloe."

Can cats & crows become friends? You decide.
How about dogs and polar bears?
Our names are Bob and Julie Butler and we recently moved from Prince George to Victoria.
For the past few years we have combined dog walking with manufacturing and marketing our own invention, an online product called the Better Behavior Wheel to parents with behavior challenged kids. Prior to that we owned a successful forestry contracting company that specialized in silviculture.
Bob builds small sailboats in his spare time, an activity that Julie tolerates providing he doesn't get too obsessive about it. We have one 19 year old son as well as twin boys in their mid 20's and a 22 year old daughter who is studying to be an accountant.
All of our pet care is done by ourselves. We don't hire outside help. We are both very mature (translate: responsible). We love animals and we treat your pets like we would our own. Most of our dog walking is done on an individual basis, rather than in large groups. We would never walk more than three or four dogs at the same time.
Molly, Baily and Allie make up the balance of our family.
Why Hire a Professional Dog Walker?
All dogs require exercise to remain healthy. The amount of exercise tolerated by dogs depends largely on their breed, size and age. In general, all dogs require at least 1-2 hours per day, though older dogs, small dogs or "toy" breeds may require this exercise to be broken up into shorter intervals.
Coming home tired from work and overburdened with responsibility takes a toll. Walking your dog no longer seems enjoyable, but a task that must be done. Feelings like this are shared by your companion, who misses you and yearns for affection from you, but must respond to his basic physical needs first. We as pet owners have all experienced this frustration. Chewed shoes, gnawed furniture, hyperactivity, incontinence and other behavioural problems are signs that your dog is not happy. They can't tell you in words, so their actions speak volumes.
Dogs who receive regular exercise and fresh air are far more likely to relax and enjoy the quiet time at home with their loved ones. Dogs who receive attention throughout the day, not at home alone, are less likely to overwhelm you with affection and attention when you first get in the door. If you were alone all day how would you react when someone came home? Excited, hyper, overzealous?
Hiring a professional dog walker ensures that your dog's needs for affection & companionship, and physical needs are met while you are not there.
